I'll do it! I'll set you free.
Yeah, right. (Genie's head turns into Pinoccio)

THE STORY

A quick synopsis of ALADDIN

Who's Who???

Aladdin: Aladdin isn't your typical Prince Charming. He struggles to get enough food to survive ("always scraping for food and dodging the guards"), and he lives on top of an old building. Still, he knows there's much more to him than fleas and theivish ways. He never loses his dream that things will eventually change. Aladdin is brave, funny, loyal, and sneaky. He balances a double life when he meets Jasmine as both "Aladdin" and "Prince Ali." But even though lies slip easily out of his mouth, he always tries his best to make everything better. (In the movie, by saving Agrabah and rescuing a princess.) To summarize, Aladdin is just about the perfect guy! ("Who, me?")

Jasmine: Jasmine is an exotic beauty who longs for adventure and independence. But her dreams could never be realized because she's a princess with an overprotective father. In fact, before she ran away, she had never even been outside the palace! Jasmine gets jealous easily, and she's a bit of a hothead. Even so, she's intelligent and cunning, sometimes even managing to outwit Aladdin himself. Although she can definitely take care of herself, sometimes she too is in need of a rescuer, and luckily Aladdin is never far behind.

Genie: Genie is a big blue cheerful genie. He's full of imitations and jokes. He tries to make even the heaviest situations light and happy. Genie has a huge heart, which is why he prefers granting Aladdin wishes over Jafar. Genie is also particularly fond of singing. :) Like Jasmine, Genie longs for freedom. When he finally gets his wish granted by Aladdin, he begins his lifelong dream of traveling around the world.

Jafar: Jafar is the villian of the movie. He's calm, sophisticated, suave, and evil. A lot of people are pulled into his charm (like the Sultan) but others can see right through him (Jasmine.) Jafar is clever, and he works hard to realize his crazy plans. He dreams of taking over Agrabah, but Aladdin intervenes. Jafar ends up wishing himself to be an all-powerful Genie. He makes another appearance in the second movie before he's banished for good.

Abu: Abu is a jealous, funny, loyal little monkey. He helps Aladdin get out of numerous problems (like dodging the guards and helping Al escape from jail.) Basically, he's Aladdin's first primate. Er, I mean mate. He adores Aladdin, and he gets annoyed when Jasmine captures Aladdin's attention. Eventually, he learns to accept Jasmine. Oh, and did I mention that he's completely obsessed with treasure?

Sultan: The Sultan is pudgy and cutesy, but he still manages to keep a tight grip on his daughter. He wants whats best for Jasmine, but he doesn't want to go out of the way of the law. He's a bit immature (he has a toy collection), but he's sweet. He's also naive and out of tune with his surroundings.

Iago: Iago is the sarcastic, loudmouth parrot with teeth. He's Jafar's ally in evil. Iago has a sick head, and he's the mastermind behind Jafar's plans. He and Jafar seem to work in sync, but the great ideas are all Iago's. Although Iago is impatient and cranky, you can't dispute the fact that he's smart. (I mean, seriously, how many parrots can talk NORMALLY??) Iago gravitates towards the good side at the end of the second movie.

Rajah: Rajah is Jasmine's pet tiger, and her only real friend for a long time. He is loyal to Jasmine, and he hates to see her leave him. She'll do anything to protect Jasmine, including almost making Aladdin his dinner! Jasmine is lucky she has this sweet ball of fluff on her side.

Carpet: He is a rug, for crying out loud! Haha, just kidding. Although Carpet is only a square of fabric (but very beautiful fabric), he's very important to the movie. Through his motions and "hands", he can convey when he's sad or happy or excited. He helps move the story along. It's true that he gets off to a rocky start with Abu, but he makes up for it once he saves Al's and Abu's lives. Carpet takes Aladdin and Jasmine on the magic carpet ride, and he prompts Aladdin to kiss Jasmine.

Well, those are the main characters!
