Al’s Advice

Welcome to the Official Advice Center in Agrabah!

WANT TO GET ALADDIN'S ADVICE? (and maybe Jasmine's, Iago's, Genie's, and Jafar's advice, too!) CLICK HERE! )

Our guest advisor this today is Aladdin of Agrabah! This guy's been through it all--stealing food from the market, dodging the guards, plunging through a Cave of Wonders, winning the heart of our Princess, and destroying Jafar!

Oh yeah, and did we mention that he did it all in a few days?

You can see that he can relate to all different kinds of people, and that makes him a superb candidate. So, let's give a warm salaam and welcome to ALADDIN!!!

Aladdin: Thank you so much...um, big voice up there. Anyway, I'm Aladdin, and I'll try to give the best advice I can.

Big Voice: Al! Confidence! Confidence!

Aladdin: Oh, right. What I meant was, give me your best shot!

NOW FOR THE NEXT LETTER!

Dear Aladdin,

I just moved to a new city, and I have to start a whole new school in the middle of the year. It's been two weeks, and I haven't made any friends yet. It seems like everybody already knows each other, and there's no room for me.
I come home everyday after school and count down the minutes until I have to go back....How can I be happy here in my new home?

From,
New Kid

Dear New Kid,

Let me tell you, I know how hard it is the be the new person in town. I had a really hard time adjusting to life in the palace when I first moved in with Jasmine. And I know it seems easy to just isolate yourself.

But trust me on this, you have to make the first move. You have to reach out to others before they will reach out to you. How, you ask? Talk to the kid next to you in your classes. It can start out as simple as a complaint about the homework, or a compliment on their cool robes.

Participate in what your school has to offer, too. Join clubs and sports that interest you, and you are guaranteed to find friends with the same interests.

Don't hang back. Don't let the world pass you by on a flying carpet. You'll be fine...I know it.

Signed,
Al

Dear Aladdin,

My older brother is perfect. It's gotten to a point where I can hardly stand being around him. Wherever I go in my school, people ask me if I'm my Danny's sister, and they tell me how proud I should be of him. At family functions, everyone fawns over Danny--about his grades, his basketball, his college choice, his artwork, his volunteering.
I guess I'm happy for him, but even my PARENTS pay attention only to him.

~Lost in the Shadows

Dear Lost in the Shadows,

I HATE people who take the spotlight every time. If Danny was your partner instead of your brother, I'd say leave him in a lamp for all eternity like I did with Jafar. But you can't really stuff Mr. Perfect under the sand, so I'd say you have to deal with it.
I suggest you find your own place to shine. He does basketball and art? Don't choose his stuff unless you're really good or you'll find yourself more than ever in the dust. Try music or theater or designing. Next time you're parents bring up something like, "Oh, Danny painted a wonderful painting. It's on display in the palace," say, "That's great. Actually, I have something going on at the palace, too. I cast the lead in the Agrabah Play." When people in your school ask your if you're Danny's sister, smile and introduce yourself. It may actually help to have connections with Danny.
And, regardless whether it's a couple of years or ten thousand years, you WILL be free of him eventually. Sooner or later you'll leave him in a well...I mean, he'll go to college.

Crankily yours,
Iago
